PAINTED PERSONAS
Documenting a timeprint of our present community by choosing diverse individuals that reflect the personality of our west coast lives.
Leigh Buchanan, Jody Schneider and Susan McLennan explore the same subject using their unique perceptions and techniques to reveal the spirit and characters of the individual.
Leigh Buchanan’s figures seem momentarily arrested for the purpose of examination. Each reveals a unique visual story about living here and now. Even asleep, they are suffused with spirit, vitality and personality.
The ‘little squares’ of painting by Jody Schneider are about playing with colour. Initially an approach to exploring colour interactions, they soon evolved into a vehicle for the expression of other planes…sound, light, movement and emotion. Through this interplay of hue and value another dimension is added to the painting surface. Combining this technique with dynamic figurative expressions produces multifaceted, vibrant works.
Sensual, bold and contemporary, each of Susan McLennan’s creations incorporates materials and concepts that are rich in texture and meaning. Spontaneous play across the layers of media is unified by harmonious glazes of colour. Her work combines the diversity of cultures with the inspiration wild Pacific scenery.
"Our intention was to create multifaceted images in acrylics, oils and mixed media that portray the relational thread that entwines us all."
